Originally, we started the business to get flexible hours to take care of our family responsibilities. I actually started my career as a programmer at a local company after receiving my Bachelors in Science in Computer Science Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington after immigrating from India. My kids were young and we were also taking care of my husbands parents who lived with us.
Frisco was opening it's first mall, the Stonebriar Centre, and it seemed to be a great opportunity to start a business. I worked everyday to learn how to operate a business and specifically what it takes to run a candy store.
I loved the candy store because it was a fun experience for both kids and their parents and I was getting to see exciting candy products that I had never seen before. Also being a sugar lover, I get to try them all!
I also love seeing and talking to our customers. We try to keep specialty candies for customers who like to come in on a weekly basis and buy their favorite treat. They ask employees to pull it out of the drawers because they know we keep it just for them!
We realized that candy is not just a treat for kids, but it’s also very popular amongst teenagers and even adults. It was fun to see senior citizens come and look for their nostalgic candies and when they found them, they were just like little kids, so happy and excited! That’s when we decided to open more locations.
We recognized airports were a good opportunity when we started traveling and noticed the candy stores at the airports were very busy. Customers loved to browse and they saw all the candies they grew up with and took some for their loved ones. I saw customers walk in and realize that they haven’t seen all the new sour and gooey and spray candies out there and took selfies to remember the visit.
